Do pets or animals go to Heaven? Do They Have Souls?
The Bible does not give any teachings on whether pets/animals have “souls” or whether pets/animals will be in heaven. However, we can use biblical principles to develop some clarity on the subject. The Bible says that both man and animals have the breath of life. The difference between human beings and animals is that humanity is made in the image and likeness of God, while animals are not. If pets/animals do have a “soul” , it must therefore be of a different and lesser “quality.”

Yes, animals do have a soul. But it is not fully understood yet what happens to them after they die. Just like humans animals were given the breath of life by God. Pope John Paul II said that animals posses souls and man must love and show solidarity with them. But a main difference between man and animals is that man has a higher level of intelligence. Man is held responsible for his actions in a way that animals are not.
